PRIVATE VIOLIN CURRICULUM

One on One Private Lesson

(Stringed instrument Violin & Viola & Cello)

In Addition to your regular private lessons with your instruments, ensemble/ orchestra class might be a good way for your to incorporate your music musicianship, techniques in ensemble playing and more.
We encourage students who are only taking private stringed lesson to join our group class for performances or weekly rehearsal. Group setting provides a fun and engaging environment for students to develop their listening, reading and playing stringed instruments.

Young STARTER: String babies (Ages 24 months and up to 5 years old)
STARTER:  EXPLORATION

For students who want to explore the fun of playing the violin in a one on one setting. For young beginners 5 years to 9 years old. We uses method and books from current trending European composers such as Vamoosh and Fiddle time series, Sassmanhaus plus tradition Suzuki violin/ cello series for music.

Year 2: ORIENTATION

For students who have completed Violin Exploration. This class moves onto more finger and bowing technique.

We uses method and books from current trending European composers such as Vamoosh and Fiddle time series, Sassmanhaus plus tradition Suzuki violin/ cello series for music. Composer Robert Trory's series are great to start with violin technique and we start to focus on etudes and techniques at this level plus current repertoire. We use RCM violin series for exam prep purposes.

Year 3: ADVENTURE

For students who have completed Violin Orientation. This class moves onto intermediate finger and bowing technique.

We use RCM violin series for exam prep purposes only. Lessons are focusing on, techniques, etudes, and Repertoire equally.

At this level: Students be rehearsing with the Chamber orchestra level or MRU Orchestra (audition requried yearly) and Musica Theory Class (theory requirement).

MUSICA STRINGS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Open to students who are preparing to audition for the other Calgary's larger orchestra or want to stay in smaller chamber orchestra for more individual attention.  (audition and separate private lesson are required for this level). This level allows for students to acquire valuable chamber ensemble experience. Students who play their stringed instruments as their 2nd instruments can also join, given that they are proficient at music reading with their first instrument. Practicing requirement for orchestra music is less than private lesson and therefore, this is a good alternative way to learn stringed instrument as their 2nd or 3rd instruments given their other extra curricular activities and school workload's commitment.
